Is Is? Yeah Yeah Yeahs!

So according to filter-mag.com, Yeah Yeah Yeahs have added two California dates to their current mini U.S tour which kicks off tonight in Kansas. They added two dates, one in San Francisco @ the Fillmore (YES!) and one in L.A. As you know, the group is currently on the road supporting their EP Is Is which came out over a week ago.

Don't expect a new sound coming from Is Is, the songs in this EP were written around the time Fever to Tell came out, back in 2004. This doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad EP, I actually like it. It's the Yeah Yeah Yeahs sound I fell in love when my cousin introduced them to me a couple of years ago. Is Is has that typical Yeah Yeah Yeahs energetic, garage, juiced up sound we know and love. So get it! Plus it's nice to have them come out with something they can tour on amidst the rumours of them separating months ago. Yeah we don't want that.

The tour dates are below, tickets for the San Francisco show go on sale Aug. 5th @ 10 am, and the LA show goes on sale the day before also at 10 am.

Camera Crowd's V-Day mix!

And so we are told by the narrating thoughts of Jim Carrey's character Joel Barish in Eternal Sunshine of A Spotless Mind. Whether you are single or taken, have a problem with Valentine's Day or you don't have a problem with this holiday, take a second and let it go this year.

All that stress and anger can't be good, instead focus on the good things like, how tomorrow you can run to the grocery stores and buy Valentine chocolates for half the price! Also, Valentine's Day doesn't have to stop at couples, take this holiday as an excuse to show how much you care about the people around you. Small things like an emailing a friend you haven't talked to in awhile, holding the door for a stranger, calling your mom or dad or making a mix cd of your own and pass that around as Valentines...it's pretty eye-opening when you see how many people you know and love are around you.

Now that you're all inspired and eager to show how cheesy you are, be nice to yourself and listen to some good music. Oh yeah...Happy Valentine's Day!

Camera Crowd's Best of 2006

This year for music has been F-A-N-tastic: long-time favorites two-stepped back into the music world again. (look: Cat Power, Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens...) On the other hand, new favorites settled so quickly into our ears that we're almost scared to wonder if 2007 can top this year.

Okay, so we couldn't figure out who would get to write on these four albums, since we both loved them immensely and we mean immensely. To the point where Anne called dibs on all four of them, but realizing that wasn't exactly fair. We decided to rest assured that you knew who these four were and decided to not fistfight over googletalk about who gets to write about comeback Chan Marshall, Austin favorite indie pop Voxtrot, Jenny Lewis's first solo album or Voxtrot-keyboardist Jared Van Fleet's solo EP. Although it would be interesting to see how that would go over.

Lightness Peter and the Wolf
Some bloggers have touched on Peter and the Wolf, but too few haven't even mentioned Red Hunter's first official release Lightness. This album revolves around Hunter's seemingly hundred-year old voice is full of wisdom and comes off as if its owner has traveled every corner of the world and sat down to tell stories, which is of course in the form of the songs. Ooooh along, listeners!

The Highway - Peter and the Wolf

A breath of fresh air and lifts the listener out of troubles and into the cobblestone European scenery. There is plenty to sing and dance along to and youngster Zach Condon is the tour guide around the place providing a warm golden trumpet sound to melt anyone's heart.

The Life Pursuit Belle and Sebastian
Hello, polished version of Belle and Sebastian. For longtime, B&S fans this may sound fatal and a sure sign of disappointment, but relax it only means a new direction for this catchy Scottish band. This album introduces Stuart Murdoch flexing his voice into new places making the listener think twice during "Sukie in the Graveyard" and double-checking it wasn't a David Bowie song lost in the mix. Lively electric guitar solos and in-the-gut drums rolls the album forward while hooking onto your pants to throw you in the passenger seat along for the ride into the new horizon.

5:55 Charlotte Gainsbourg
Having influences from her world famous father Serge Gainsbourg, Charlotte easily infuses together a feeling of calmness and rush in this album. With help from the band electronic pop band Air, listening to Charlotte Gainsbourg's 5:55 is like going on a short drive while cars blur by and slowing down time, creating this tiny moment of peace.

Show Your Bones Yeah Yeah Yeahs
A lot of people I know counted out Show Your Bones because it brought out a totally different sound compared to Fever To Tell. This time around, Karen O and the gang provides us with a much softer sound, not the Yeah Yeah Yeahs we know. And was this a bad idea? Absolutely not! Give this album a couple of listens and it'll reveal the other side of YYY's we weren't familiar with. The softer side that still packs a powerful punch.

Cheated Hearts - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Ys Joanna Newsom
It's pronounced (ees) and it was on a lot of bloggers favourite list. Joanna Newsom and Ys lived up to the hype of many bloggers and critics. It's nothing but praise for this 55 minute beautifully painted canvas of music. I just hope, with 2007 right in the corner, bloggers and critics would focus more on her music rather than what she wears on her shows. I recommend getting into Milk-Eyed Mender first before getting your hands and ears on a copy of Ys.

The undead roams A Camera in the Crowd

It's that time of the year again, when scary midterm election ads are everywhere, horror movies are on every night, and that certain winter smell in the air.

It's halloween!!!

To me, It marks the end of nasty summer weather and welcome in winter with open arms. Here at A Camera in the Crowd, you know we're all about treats and not tricks. So I came up with a playlist that you can play while you're trick or treating and satisfying that sweeth tooth or while applying make up to go along with your devilish hooker costume.

This year, I don't think Anne and I are dressing up, it's the lack of costume ideas and money. I don't even have enough for a d.i.y costume. So I thought to myself, how can i gratify both audiences who wanna enjoy halloween? To those of you who are just staying home and handing out candies to little trick or treaters, you can keep yourself busy by renting a horror film.

I don't know much about good horror flicks, so i've consulted my good friend/horror film fanatic Emily, to give us input on her most favorite horror flicks of all time. So hit up your local video store or netflix and rent these movies.

*wicker man (1973 version)
[i haven't seen the remake with nicholas cage, but i definitely think the '73 version is superior. i've sen trailers for the remake, and it looks like several details were changed.]
the story is set on a remote island in scotland. the followers of a pagan religion scarifice an innocent man in order to produce successful crops. the wicker man shows the powerful and, in this case, frightening control religion has on people.

*se7en
se7en is definitely a thriller that keeps you guessing. the killer uses his "work" to teach the world about the seven deadly sins. the mystery definitely sucks you in. it might also make you appreciate life a little more.

*the mothman prophecies
mothman is based on true events (look it up, it's very interesting!). a strange being makes itself known in a small town. it's a puzzling, surreal movie about the unknown. it sure kept me from looking out the window at night...

*the hills have eyes (i'm a fan of both the original and remake)
anything could go wrong at any time! it shows what people are capable of doing to each other, and what people would to to survive. there's great action and exciting attacks and killings.

*silent hill
many people who are fans of the game find problems with the movie version of silent hill. i haven't played the game much, so i wasn't too familiar with characters or scenes. with that said, i thought the movie was exciting. the graphics were great and the characters were horrifying.

*cannibal holocaust
this is the most disgusting movie i've ever seen. i don't recommend this to anyone, really. it's one of the most controversial and famous italian cannibal movies. it's about a group filmmakers who travel to the amazon and encounter deadly native tribes. the gore in the movie is so real and so horrible that I almost threw up. Don't watch this unless you really know what you're getting yourself into...

*night of the living dead
the movie that sparked my passion for zombies! the first in the "...of the dead" movies. it's filmed in black and white and it's beautiful. unlike the newer movies, Night moves slowly before any awesome zombie attacks. this may bore some people, but the second half of the movie is well worth the wait. it's a classic and must see for any horror fan.
